StructuralWind
Professional wind load analysis software built by practising New Zealand structural engineers โ accessible from any device, anywhere.
AS/NZS 1170.2:2021
NZ Engineering Practice
Web-Based Platform
๐๏ธ Built by Practising New Zealand Structural Engineers
StructuralWind isn't built by software developers who read a textbook โ it's designed and maintained by practising Chartered Professional Engineers (CPEng) who use wind load calculations every day on real New Zealand projects.
Why that matters:
- Every calculation follows the methodology we use in professional practice, aligned with AS/NZS 1170.2:2021
- Wind region data, terrain categories, and shielding multipliers are specific to New Zealand conditions
- The tool handles the same edge cases and design scenarios we encounter on commercial, industrial, and residential projects
- Clause references are included so you can trace every result back to the standard
- Outputs are formatted the way engineers actually need them โ for design verification, peer review, and council submissions
๐ณ๐ฟ
We understand the unique challenges of designing for New Zealand's wind climate โ from cyclonic regions in the north to the exposed coastlines of the South Island. StructuralWind is built with that local knowledge baked in, not bolted on.
๐ Why a Web App?
Traditional engineering software means expensive licences, clunky installers, and being locked to one machine. StructuralWind takes a different approach.
๐ป
Use It Anywhere
Open your browser on any device โ desktop, laptop, or tablet. No installation, no IT department required. Works on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chromebooks.
๐
Always Up to Date
When standards change or we add features, you get the update instantly. No patches to download, no version conflicts. You're always on the latest release.
๐๏ธ
Use It On Site
Pull it up on your phone or tablet during a site visit. Check wind speeds, verify terrain categories against what you see, and confirm design parameters on the spot.
๐ฐ
No Expensive Licences
No $2,000+ per-seat software licences. Affordable monthly pricing means even sole practitioners and small firms can access professional-grade tools.
๐
Secure & Private
Your data is protected with Firebase authentication and encrypted connections. Calculation data stays in your account โ we don't share it with anyone.
โก
Fast & Interactive
3D visualisation, real-time pressure maps, and instant recalculation as you adjust parameters. See the impact of design changes immediately.
๐ What StructuralWind Does
Core Capabilities
- Site-specific wind speed (Vsit,ฮฒ) โ calculated for all 8 cardinal directions using regional wind speeds, terrain, shielding, and topographic multipliers
- Design wind pressure (qz) โ with full AS/NZS 1170.2 methodology including importance levels and directional effects
- External pressure coefficients (Cp,e) โ for walls and roofs across all standard building shapes: flat, gable, hip, and monoslope
- Internal pressure coefficients (Cp,i) โ automatically calculated based on opening ratios
- Net face pressures โ combining external and internal pressures for each building surface
- Interactive map โ satellite/street view with building footprint overlay, wind direction arrows, and TC zone visualisation
- 3D building model โ real-time pressure heatmaps, dimension lines, and interactive face selection
- 8-direction multiplier tables โ edit Md, Mz,cat, Ms, and Mt per direction with Vsit,ฮฒ wind rose
- Professional PDF reports โ export calculation summaries with all parameters, clause references, and 3D screenshots
๐ Standards Compliance
All calculations follow AS/NZS 1170.2:2021 โ Structural design actions, Part 2: Wind actions. Specific clause references are provided throughout the application so results can be independently verified.
Key clauses implemented:
- Clause 2.2 โ Regional wind speed VR
- Clause 2.4.1 โ Site wind speed Vsit,ฮฒ = VR Md Mz,cat Ms Mt
- Clause 2.4.1 โ Design wind pressure qz = ยฝฯair Vยฒsit,ฮฒ
- Table 4.1(A) โ Terrain/height multiplier Mz,cat
- Table 5.2 โ External wall pressure coefficients
- Table 5.3 โ External roof pressure coefficients
- Clause 5.3 โ Internal pressure coefficients Cp,i
- Clause 2.5.3 โ Net pressure p = qz (Cp,e โ Cp,i) Ka Kc,e
